Robert W. Ewing, 89 LEOMINSTER, Mass. — Robert W. Ewing, 89, of Falmouth, formerly of Leominster and Ashburnham, Mass., died on Oct. 27, 2009, at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough, after an illness. He is survived by his daughter Margaret E. DeBruyn and her husband Anthony of Yarmouth, his son Robert W. Ewing Jr. and his wife Paula of Westminster, Mass.; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Dorothy M. (Marble) Ewing in 2001. He was also predeceased by his sister Eleanor E. Miller. Mr. Ewing was born in Ellenville, N.Y. on Feb. 5, 1920, the son of John G. and Beatrice (Dunton) Ewing and had lived in the Leominster area for several years, before moving to Maine a few years ago. He graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. in 1939, Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead, Miss. in 1942 and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass. in 1971. Robert was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force, serving as a Flight Instructor during World War II. He retired from New England Electric System in 1985 after 35 years of service. He was the District Superintendent of the North Central District at the time of his retirement. He was a member of Wilder Lodge AF & AM in Leominster. During his 32 years as a member of the Boy Scouts of America, he was an Eagle Scout, a Scoutmaster, an advisor to the Order of the Arrow, a Council Commissioner and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Robert enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Bustins Island. A memorial service will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. The Silas F.
